Autism Behavioural Intervention
Association (ABIA) was founded by a group of parents whose children
had Autism Spectrum Disorders. Having discovered that they were unable
to access therapies which had been found to be effective, and were
already in widespread use in other countries, they recruited specialists
from the USA to train and work with families in Australia. The organisation
they founded was formally incorporated as an Association under the
Associations Incorporation Act (1981) with Public Benevolent Institution
(PBI) status granted on 25 February, 1997.
ABIA’s primary purpose is to provide education, information,
support, advice and assistance to families and carers on Applied Behaviour
Analysis (ABA) and other effective methods of care and treatment.
Governance of ABIA is overseen by a voluntary Committee of Management
made up of ABIA members, parents, carers and professionals who are
elected at the Association’s General Annual Meeting each year.
ABIA's day-to-day work is performed by a Program Manager, an Administration
Manager, two Psychologist, a Bookkeeper
and numerous contractors who present education and training programs.
Funding for ABIA’s work comes from grants and donations,
fees from workshops and training programs and membership subscriptions.
Donations are tax deductible. |
